This week, President Trump and Congress doubled down on hypocrisy and illogical decisions that hurt everyday Americans.
After passing $4.6 trillion in tax breaks for the wealthy, they had the audacity to slash Medicaid and other essential services under the false pretense of “reducing the budget.” They discontinued energy efficiency tax credits that help regular people lower their bills—while pouring even more money into opaque ICE operations that feel straight out of a police state. To make matters worse, they clawed back funding already allocated for critical needs like feeding starving children abroad and supporting public radio in Alaska villages.
We know it’s exhausting to keep up with these attacks on our values, but collective action works. Together, we can fight back!
Please read on for actions you can take as well as upcoming events, and other ways to get involved in this week’s “Ways to Engage” series from Alaska Forward!

Priority Actions to Take

- Write a letter to the editor of your local paper – Check out Women Forward’s helpful toolkit for guidance. Letters to the editor are a long game, so if your letter isn’t published, keep trying and post it on social media and share it with your network. You can find more tips on how to write letters that really get attention here and feel free to contact us at info@alaskaforward.org if we can help in any way.
- Require ICE to unmask and display clear identification – The Visible Identification Standards for Immigration-Based Law Enforcement (VISIBLE) Act of 2025 would strengthen oversight, transparency, and accountability for the Trump Administration’s indiscriminate and alarming immigration enforcement tactics that have terrorized communities across California and the nation. Send a letter to Congress now!
- Be an ally for your immigrant neighbors – Educate yourself on your rights and the rights of immigrants — check out these resources & share them with your network:
- Register Voters – Want to help register voters? Check out Field Team 6 or League of Women Voters for events and tips for how to take action. We lost ground nationally in 2024 on both turnout and voter registration. Let’s not do that ever again!
- Amplify the hypocrisy about Trump’s refusal to release the Epstein files
- Trump repeatedly said they should be released and AG Bondi said they were “on her desk to review” just a few months ago. Now they say there’s nothing there and MAGA folks are beginning to realize they’ve been duped.
